Is it summer yet? I swear, any more snow and I'll scream! I am learning to deal with death these days. In Oct. 06 my sister-in-law died of cancer. In Dec.06 My father-in-law died of cancer and last week my cat died. She was 18 and lived a long and spoiled life but it still sucks. I am too depressed to paint, but I picked up some canvases yesterday to do some glue-ing. Hopefully I will create beauty from nothingness, cause that's kinda how I feel today. Holidays suck for athiests...

A big hey goes out there to all of you who took the time to visit this site! I spent the last couple of weeks working on a teapot for a show I hope to be in - I'll have photos soon! The Homer Watson show is still on and doing well. I sent out a few submissions too, I'm always on the lookout for a good show! I hope to get one in Old Montreal one day (pref. in the summer). Old Montreal is HEAVENLY. But for now, Kitchener, Cambridge (Ontario, that is, to all of you in Cambridge, Mass!) and Toronto will do. I have a new painting on the table called "The Dogwalker", an old guy with a frizbee (sp?). Hope to have that one done soon! Lots of new photo reference to work from, I took a trip into the city with my camera. Holy crap I am exactly like my mother! She probably was doing the same thing at the time - thanks for those great genes, MOM! She'll have a site up soon too so stay tuned! I blog around town too, so feel free to google my blogs, baby...

Wow! That is an excellent show! Yesterday's opening (I hate that term) at the Homer Watson House & Gallery in Kitchener, Ontario went very well. Lots of traffic and great vibes from the patrons. Also a magnet for interesting folks in the field - I met some really cool people who I hope to see again someday. Also good refreshments! My stuff looks great in there if I do say so myself. The other 2 artists showing in the other rooms although quite different from my style, meshed well and they were charming too. I live for the show! I am inspired to try - again - to get into the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition in Nathan Philips Square in July. Wish me luck, its a good thing rejection does not phase me!

I can understand why folks in Toronto would be into my work but I am confused as to why I get SO many hits from Cambridge, Mass., USA.

It could be because I live in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada but did you guys know I was born in Cambridge Mass when my dad was getting his mba at Harvard. Wierd...if anyone from Mass has any comments, let me know!

Today I have the flu - nice, eh? But I am still busy preparing for the big show next week! Only my death would stop that process now! (Knock wood, no death!)

    later gaters...

  • Blog...

I just posted an entry on the Torontoist site (see www.torontoist.com)
regarding the city's Hug Day where folks can meet and hug at Nathan Phillips Square. Yay - celebrate your love for Toronto (just mind your valuables and beware of gropers)!

I had a successful studio visit with the director of Kitchener's Homer Watson House & Gallery this week! These people know how to treat an artist - I have felt like a celebrity since my first submission there! I am very busy framing this week in preparation for the big show!

I just made a donation of a few pieces to the (Ontario) Cambridge District Humane Society for their annual art auction. I hope they can raise a few bucks for the cause! Remember to spay and neuter your pets please!

    Hugs!

Finally! These two new pieces from my "Curbs" series are finished! They took entirely too long but I fel empowered by their done-ness. Let's Go and Getting There. I like that the word curb has two meanings - My thinking is that people have to curb themselves to live in close proximity to each other. We have to control our emotions and actions more than if we lived in the country. There's a sensitivity that comes with city life. We keep more to ourselves, and we are more aware of personal space and privacy. I just started 2 more, I am scrambling to frame stuff for the upcoming show at Homer Watson Gallery - I am SO psyched! The venue is sweet and I always feel like it's my birthday at these shows. I live for this shit!

My website says I can upgrade and include video - I'm considering adding a virtual studio for viewers to seee my work in progress. If you have any comments about this lemme know. Snow day here, I'm gonna try to get the latest piece started - I'll call it "Rent-a-Cop".
    Later!

  • Blog...

I have just finished 2 pieces this weekend - they will be on the site later this week, and I am starting 2 more of what I call "Urban Portraits". The first stage of these pieces usually involves my horrible photography. I go the the city and do drive-by shooting out the window of my mini-van. I always worry that someone will misunderstand my intentions and freak out on me but so far, no problems. Then I make a collage of various objects I have photographed (like people, cars, storefronts, etc.) and trace objects onto paper to make an interesting image. Then I project my drawings onto canvas. I prefer fast-drying oils but this can get really fume-y and I get headaches easily. Today I will switch back to acrylics to give my over-abused brain cells a break. I am also trying to figure out how to give viewers a chance to see works in progress. I have a web-cam which I use for IMs, but I'd like to use it for a virtual studio tour. If you have any suggestions, please contact me!
    Later!
